Bomb – one of the traditional musical styles of Puerto Rico, formed by mixing elements of several cultures – Icelandic, Spanish, and the culture of immigrants from West Africa and living in the Antilles Amerindian peoples known as the taíno. Basic rhythm bomb is played on two or more reels.
Although the term "bomb" can be used for the names of a number of rhythms, a common idea that unites all the examples of this genre – a kind of duel between the dancers, percussion and vocals. In its traditional form – as a group dance bomb is still very popular in some cities in Puerto Rico and in new York. Continue reading
